Failte a Tuath na Gaoth Aneas Welcome to the Tuath na Gaoth Aneas website. We are a small, newly founded Éireannach Sinsearacht tuath located in south central Kansas. and have a lore-based family-based tradition, as well as growing musical and agricultural aspects. Founded in 2006 by three families who share a passion for the Irish culture, we are getting the ball rolling with home study of the Éireannach culture and the Gaeilge language. |

Vision To reclaim the Heritage of the Gaelic Peoples Mission Statement We will embrace our heritage. We will master the language of our ancestors by diligent study and practice. We will Teach our children and fostered members to revere the tribe above the self, and to place honor and sacrifice above gain and commercialism. We will live in the manner above and know that our ancestors are proud of the efforts we made, and how far we've come. |

What Does Our Name Mean? Tuath means tribe or people, Gaoth means wind Aneas means of the south So we are People of the South Wind. Kansas, the state we are located in, was named for the Kansa, or Kaw tribe of American aborigines, a name that means WindPeople, who have a strong connection to the South Wind. We do this in honor of the people who were here before us, and to show respect for the land that is most rightfully theirs. |

Modern Living With Traditional Influence At no time should anyone visiting us or any of the other Sinsearaithe expect to see blue painted, kilt-clad (or less) people running around hacking into each other with sword and spear. We have televisions and computers. We work regular jobs, play video games, and are to outward appearances no different than anyone else in the country we live in, be it America, Australia, or Antarctica. The point here is that although we are adhering to the traditions and values of our ancestors, we are doing it in a modern society, and are trying to find the path the Gael would have taken to the modern world, had they not become muddled along the way. The differences between Sinsearaithe and deoraithe are internal. They lie mainly in our priorities and guiding principles. |

"Gaelic" versus "Celtic" It would be easy for an outsider to become confused as to why I use the term Gael as opposed to the term Celt, when, to most people, they are synonymous. The distinction is simple, if a little subtle. Celt is the name for any number of tribal peoples who ranged from Ireland to Germany, and includes the Breton, Welsh, Gaulish and Galician peoples as well as the Gael. Gael, on the other hand, is the name for the celtic peoples of Ireland and Scotland. To use an analogy, it is like the difference between Native American and Cherokee. One is the generic name for similar peoples with a common historical background, and the other is the tribal name for themselves, and just as a Cherokee is different from an Apache, a Gael is different from a Breton. |
